Kids in America

Today I picked up a brochure I wrote several months ago, because I had to get some info from it. As I read the copy, I was reminded of the absolute hassle we went through to get that brochure written—the endless meetings, the go-rounds about the word choices, the emails and the bitching and the blah, blah, blah. Since that time, I’ve written three or four more brochures, and all of them were easy and fine.

The crazyness was all because of a crazy person, who is no longer working at my company. Now that the crazy person is gone, we can actually do real work, write things that make sense, and not get hung up in endless circles of changes, anger, and chaos. Hell is a place with a bad boss.

Also today I was SHOCKED to discover the ages of some of my coworkers. I was assuming these people were ten years old than me, and to hear that one of them is turning 32 today really shook my perceptions to their foundation. I kind of assume that the higher in power you are, the older you are, and I learned today that that’s not the case. It’s funny how you get ideas about people, give them an age and credibility, and then you realize that they’re three years older than you are. That they’re the same age as certain cousins with whom you talk about Simpsons episodes and song lyrics. The same age as cousins-in-law who pretend to be starring in Man vs. Wild while stalking rabbits with sticks.

My little world has certainly been rocked. From now on: less credibility for everyone!

About Me

  • I'm thirty & living in Amish Country, PA. I'm a marketing writer for a non-profit.
  • I'm Mennonite, but not in a head-covered, dress-wearing kind of way. More in a hippy-liberal, peace-loving kind of way.
  • I like books, discussing, thinking, my church, friends, and my family.
  • I'm good at gift-giving, shopping, and writing.
  • I'm bad at meeting new people, cleaning my car, and keeping my house warm.
  • I'm annoyed by people who wear shorts in the winter, create excessive drama, don't recycle, or talk about how fat they are.
