The Sound of Thunder

Today I came home from work and my little bedroom thermometer/clock said 35 degrees—CELSIUS. That’s hot. I think like 95 Fahrenheit. Or more!

But last night I wrestled my window air conditioner into its proper summer location (in the window). This marks the official start of summer, and it will remain there until September, when I wrestle it out again. I always get a few scrapes and bruises wielding that thing, and of course it’s always ridiculously hot when I do the wrestling, because why else would I put it in?

Last night I got away with only a mild scrape and a lot of sweat.

Today when I got home I turned on the AC, the computer, and the TV in that order (yay, electricity!), lay down on my bed, and then promptly fell asleep with my hand on the mouse pad.

Heat is exhausting. So is wrestling window air conditioners. But, the good news is: I waited until mid-June to turn this thing on. It’s a new record.

About Me

  • I'm thirty & living in Amish Country, PA. I'm a marketing writer for a non-profit.
  • I'm Mennonite, but not in a head-covered, dress-wearing kind of way. More in a hippy-liberal, peace-loving kind of way.
  • I like books, discussing, thinking, my church, friends, and my family.
  • I'm good at gift-giving, shopping, and writing.
  • I'm bad at meeting new people, cleaning my car, and keeping my house warm.
  • I'm annoyed by people who wear shorts in the winter, create excessive drama, don't recycle, or talk about how fat they are.
