You're Really Going Places!
Unrelated comment: I don’t know what it is about my family and mid-April, but four of my cousins have had birthdays in the past three days. Happy birthday to my girlz!
I’ve written here before about my love of telling people things and giving information. It’s another one of my passions. One thing I especially love to tell people is directions. If people are talking about how to get somewhere, and I know how to get there, I will invariably pipe in with my two cents. I blame my dad, and his incessant love of finding the fastest and best route anywhere. The journey is never the point with my family, only the destination.
On Thursday a couple of people from the office are driving down to Baltimore. Now I have driven from my office to Baltimore several times, and I know some little tricks and back roads that make the trip quicker and easier. When I hear them talking about going up to Harrisburg and then down from there, it makes me crazy. No! You don’t have to do that! There are back roads! It’s SUCH a waste of time to go back up there and then down again . . . and it’s so easy to just take Route 30 from Columbia. Oh, you crazy kids! Why don’t you listen to me?
And because it makes me crazy, I have to turn around and butt into their conversations. I imagine that it annoys them, since they aren’t asking for my advice. I annoy myself with this busybody-ness. In fact, I’m so annoyed with myself that I have posted a tiny post-it on my monitor to remind me to shut up. It says: Shhh. Be Quiet.
Good advice. As much as I value my own opinion, I’m not sure other people are that desperate to hear it.
But damn it, I could save them so much TIME!
