To the Mountaintop
I don't know much about Martin Luther King, really, other than what most people know about him. Mostly I remember it's MLK day because there's no mail and there's less traffic on my way to work. But I saw a link to this speech on a blog today, and I read it, and I recommend it for many reasons. It's even more haunting when you realize he gave this speech the night before he was killed.
And one more thing about MLK: I think sometimes the whole non-violence thing gets forgotten, but that was a huge part of his campaign. That's reflected in this speech, too.
Mostly I don't know what I believe about anything, but if you asked me to name one "core belief," that I really, really do think is True, it's that the only way to stop violence is to stop the cycle that perpetuates it . . . through non-violent means.
And I could ramble on and about that, but I think that's enough.
