Magnet and Steel

I'm sort of watching a TV documentary on the magnetic field, and how it may someday soon reverse itself, so that things aren't oriented North, but South. Apparently this happens gradually over time (every 780,000 years or so).

It's kind of interesting, but what I really want to know is what it means for me. Death and apocalypse? Or will all the compasses just be screwed up?
