House of Pain
So, the house next door (attached) to me is still for sale.
In the past week, I've met two neighbors and talked about the sad, sad nature of this house, the fact that it needs to be condemned, and the fact that it has had some crazy tenants. Rumors abound. Apparently a boy who once lived there, with his family of seven (in an 900 square foot house) got a 1300 on the SATs, but his family wouldn't allow him to go to college, and he was so emotionally crippled he couldn't make a go of it himself. This matches my experience . . . although based on the families I've seen living there, I'd be shocked if any of those kids ever finishes high school.
The neighbor woman I met today told me that she'd offered $25,000 for it after a walk-through with an architect. And the crazy old lady who owns it maintains that it is worth $45,000, even though there's no way anyone in their right mind would pay that.
Then, the other day, somebody was trying to break in, in broad daylight, around 9 AM.
But I've met more neighborhood people in the last week than in the last two years. This place is really bringing us all together.
